Laima, like a lima bean
With an unusual name like Laima (pronounced Lie-Mah) I end up telling my abbreviated life story every time I introduce myself.
My Lithuanian grandads were refugees after WW2 and ended up in the UK. Their children, my parents, were passionate about Lithuanian culture and met at a youth club, where they toured Eastern Europe performing traditional Lithuanian dances - sweet!
In 2002 my parents and three siblings (all of us sporting weird Lithuanian names and posh English accents) arrived in Western Australia, and for the most part have been here since.
In 2014 I met my now husband Elden Garrett. After falling in love with Margaret River as a teenager, the joke is always that my attraction for him skyrocketed when I learnt that he grew up down here.
After living in Perth through our uni years we moved down to Margs in 2022, and now have a lovely cheeky daughter, to whom we have also gifted a weird name.

Maybe married in Margs?
I have to be honest: I hang out in social circles where not everyone is completely sold on marriage.
Most of us don't partake in traditional religions, and in general think people should be completely free to love whoever and however they choose with other consenting adults. "Til Death Do Us Part" might be a bit quaint for current times.
And yet, I have to admit that I completely love weddings. Not the 'spending a house deposit to show off' kind of weddings - I love the 'we know who we are together, and that is worth celebrating' kind of weddings.
You see, my 'day job' is being a psychologist. I love that job too for the incredible connections I get to have with people every day. I have worked with couples and individuals and I love learning about why couples fall in love, what they find challenging and why they stick together. Through the toughest challenges in life are the moments and connections we find most meaningful.
I became a Celebrant because I love to hear about what makes the relationship uniquely meaningful, precious and important for different couples, and I love to translate this into a ceremony that is warm, engaging and fun for everyone to enjoy and remember.
A bit about my wedding & planning skills
I was lucky enough to get 'Married in Margs' in my in-laws' garden. We did it on the cheap with a budget of $10,000, and it was one of those wonderful days I will cherish in my heart forever. We wove our values, loved ones and Lord of the Rings obsession throughout the ceremony and celebrations afterward.
I know the stress of wedding planning can be intense and am (just a bit) of an obsessive planner myself. I would love to help facilitate a ceremony that is perfect for you, but if you would also like help planning the whole thing I am keen to provide tips, tricks and connections to make something happen that's reflects your relationship.

Lucky me, my logo was painted by legendary local artist Jacqui Brown!
